On September 16, 2021, Monmouth University introduced women's rowing as the 24th varsity sport sponsored by the University. The team began competition starting in the fall of 2022.
In fall 2021, Scott Belford was appointed the first head coach of the program and immediately began working full time to build up program resources and start recruiting student athletes. Women's Rowing joined 22 of Monmouth's 23 other varsity programs in making their debut in the Colonial Athletic Association this year.
