On September 16, 2021, Monmouth University introduced women's rowing as the 24th varsity sport sponsored by the University with competition starting in the 2022-23 academic year.
In addition to the announcement, Scott Belford was appointed the first head coach of the program and immediately began working full time to build up program resources and start recruiting student athletes.
Director of Athletics Jeff Stapleton noted "Monmouth's close proximity to the water and the shore provides a natural fit to add women's rowing to our athletic department and we are thrilled to partner with our local community as we build a championship program."
Women's Rowing will join 22 of Monmouth's 23 other varsity programs make their debut in the Colonial Athletic Association this fall.
